Furman started the season with a 12 game winning streak and in the process cracked the AP Poll for the first time in school history. The Paladins are currently tied for 3rd place in the Southern Conference with a 9-4 record (20-5 overall). The 2nd place Spartans (11-1, 22-3) have won 8 in a row starting over a month ago when they beat Furman by double digits (89-79). Both teams have 2 Top 10 scorers in the SoCon. Furman is led by triple threat big man Matt Rafferty (averaging 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists) and three point specialist Jordan Lyons (averaging 16 points) while UNCG has a stellar guard duo in Francis Alonso (averaging 17.2 points) and Isaiah Miller (averaging 15.2 points and 2.8 steals). Both teams are looking to keep momentum before facing the Wofford Terriers (13-0, 21-4) in the near future.

*Player to Watch: Demetrius Troy (G) is a senior from Raleigh, NC who is averaging 8 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists per game. With over 400 career assists, Troy is an excellent passer who is capable and confident in making big plays. Last year he finished the season strong averaging 14 points in the final 4 games (the last being a 68-64 loss to powerhouse Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament).
