Approaching tide

The 1966 NCAA Tournament was won by a team that did something new, to put it simply. Texas Western (now UTEP) was the first team in NCAA history to have an all-black starting line up. The man responsible for this new approach was Hall of Fame coach Don Haskins. His exceptional autobiography Glory Road is definitely worth a read and the movie of the same name is strongly recommended. That championship team finished the season 28-1 by beating Kentucky 72-65, a team that didn’t do something new until 1969. So as you fill out your brackets this year remember that amazing things can happen when we break the mold. Don’t wait three years like Kentucky did. Do something new today and play Bracket Bingo.
